Project Description:
The IFES internship program is designed to engage recent or current graduate and undergraduate students with a degree in international development, international relations, economics, communications or a related field. The program offers students an insider’s view of the realm of international development. Students who participate in this program will develop essential skills that are not attained in the academic world, enabling them to make the transition from academic to professional life. The Intern will work to support the Asia programs team, mainly focusing on Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Responsibilities:
The general duties of the Asia Intern will include, but will not be limited to:
• Conducting research, including from academic journals and print media;
• Providing logistical and administrative support on assigned countries/projects;
• Assisting with program development in conjunction with the needs of the project and the intern’s skills;
• Assisting the programs teams editing/writing of reports, press releases, website updates and briefing materials;
• Helping prepare financial forms and draft agreements as needed;
• Attending and report on internal and external meetings and other discussions about assigned projects;
• Performing other related duties as assigned.
POSITION SCOPE: Provides the support necessary for the team to achieve its goals. Job duties are fairly straight forward and require following common procedures and guidelines. Can manage own workload, time and priorities with close guidance from supervisor so as to facilitate a learning environment per internship guidelines.
DECISION MAKING/PROBLEM SOLVING: Has the knowledge and skills to identify solutions to routine problems. Produces useful ideas or explanations for circumstances, but may need guidance or approval on execution for results.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: None. Can assist in or have exposure to preparing routine financial reports and processing routine transaction in compliance with IFES policies and procedures.
RELATIONSHIPS: Maintains collaborative working relationship with team members and other staff within the Division.

Education: Recent graduate with degree completion date no older than 12 months at time of application or undergraduate/graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university. International affairs, political science, or a related degree preferred.
Experience: None. Familiarity with political, economic, and social issues in Asia (preferably Nepal and/or
Sri Lanka) required. Demonstrated knowledge and interest in electoral and democracy issues required. Relevant experience, familiarity, or interest in international development or related field preferred. Previous internship(s) experience with an international NGO a plus
Related Skills or Knowledge: Excellent research and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word. Familiarity with web-based applications a plus. Introductory experience in or familiarity with program development or management, NGOs, and/or USAID a plus. Detailed oriented and organized. Ability to prioritize, take direction, and handle varied tasks within deadlines. Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing. Collaborative, team oriented individual.
