Hashtag Comics

Hashtag Comics is looking for fresh new talent. It doesn't matter where you went to school, all that matters is whether you have the skills to do the job. We only accept 1-2 people a year, and we would prefer people that have perfected their craft in drawing comic books and/or graphic novels.

The internship is listed as "paid" because afterward, if completed successfully, you will be hired to our ranks, and compensated for the work done during the internship. However, if unsuccessful, that will not occur. For the duration of the actual internship, there is no compensation.

During the internship you will be expected to draw a dozen pages of an original Hashtag comic book, from pencils to letters. The book will be selected for you, based on your drawing style and the collective vote of the design team. After the internship, if it goes according to plan, you will be offered a job, compensated for the pages drawn, and asked to finish the book as a contract artist for Hashtag Comics. Or, you won't.

The goal is to see if you can work in a team, follow instructions, meet deadlines, and draw your face off. During the internship your skills will be analyzed and your place within the company, if there is one, will be determined.

Do not carry an ego into this relationship, we are one of a very select few international publishers that offer this kid of opportunity, we do not take it lightly and bad attitudes will not be tolerated. We qualify within all national programs as an internship that may be done for school credit and have previous interns from SCAD, Kubert, Cal State Fullerton, Full Sail, and the Art Institute. We also employ three former teachers, two business majors and two former professional wrestlers. We don't care what you've done or where you come from, your talent will get you in the door.

We don't really care about where you went to school or your previous work experience. If you're good, we'll know by the samples of work provided. The rest we can teach, it's an internship.

Know how to draw, know how to use a computer and how to use Google Drive (our virtual work server). Basic knowledge of computer capture software is helpful when we do our "Draw Something" segments where you record yourself drawing on your computer and we do a time lapse from beginning to end. If you use traditional art mediums (pen/paper) please have a camera that can record your work, cell phone video will suffice as long as your phone is relatively new.

You must have a website, or an art page with your work on it. Applications with no links will be immediately discarded. We do not look at work history, school experience, resumes or extra curricular activities. Your art speaks for itself.
