Tax Site Administrative Intern (행정)

Purpose: The tax site administrative intern works closely with Community Action staff and VITA volunteers/interns to help individuals and families move out of poverty during tax time. Interns will work to ensure that customers are qualifying for important tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
Anticipated Learning Outcomes:
Learn to complete intake paperwork with individuals having their taxes completed
Gain an understanding of community resources and screen people for food support, medical coverage, & energy assistance and connect them to other community resources
Become trained in preparing state and federal tax returns using tax software called TaxSlayer
Gain proficiency in reviewing tax returns with participants once they are completed
Develop the ability to work cooperatively with staff and other volunteers to provide high-quality service to customers
Obtain a detailed understanding of confidentiality policies in order to maintain strict confidentiality, providing as much privacy as logistically possible
Gain a detailed understanding of financial programs and help people enroll into eligible programs
Lean to screen individuals and schedule tax appointments

Time Commitment: Must successfully complete the following:
Must attend an informational orientation on Tuesday, November 29th at 6:00 pm or Wednesday, November 30th at 2:00 pm in the Wellstone Conference room, basement level of the Community Action Building, 450 North Syndicate St. Saint Paul. Register for orientation http://tinyurl.com/CAPRWtax
Attend 8 hour IRS tax training on one of 2 dates in January on a Saturday, date still to be determined by community partner
Successfully complete the following by February 1st, 2017:
Basic IRS certification test (Open book)
Complete two practice tax returns accurately before completing any tax returns.
Interns will be required to provide a minimum of 16 hours per week.during the tax season. At least 8 hours on Mondays from February 6th to April 10th, 2017, 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, plus an additional 8 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday.
